A Solid-State Revolution: ProLogium Launches Mass Production of EV Batteries

The Next Step in Battery Technology

The long-awaited leap in electric vehicle (EV) battery technology may finally be reaching commercial maturity. Taiwan-based manufacturer ProLogium has announced that it has successfully initiated the mass production of its large-format, fully solid-state electrolyte battery cells, as reported by industry sources.

Unmatched Energy Density and Safety

Backed by Mercedes-Benz, the company is manufacturing its 'Generation 3.5' 185.4 Ah lithium-ceramic battery cells at its facility in Taoyuan, Taiwan. Solid-state batteries are expected to offer significantly higher energy density, faster charging times, and superior safety compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries. Testing by TÜV confirmed that these cells achieve an energy density of 381 Wh/kg, which is approximately 30% higher than the nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) cells currently powering most electric vehicles.

The safety improvements are equally groundbreaking. ProLogium claims that their Generation 3 cells do not catch fire even under extreme stress, such as being shot, heated to 170 degrees Celsius, or overcharged at double the rated voltage. This innovation is expected to reshape the future of the automotive industry as manufacturers look for safer, more efficient power sources.

Global Expansion and Future Outlook

The current production capacity at the Taiwan factory stands at 0.5 GWh per year, which is sufficient for approximately 6,000 EVs with 80 kWh battery packs. However, ProLogium has ambitious global expansion plans. The company is currently constructing a new factory in Dunkerque, France, which is expected to begin production in 2028. Once fully operational, this facility is projected to reach an impressive capacity of 44 GWh by 2030.

Looking ahead, ProLogium is already developing its 'Generation 4' cells, which will utilize an inorganic electrolyte system to further enhance performance in low temperatures. As the world transitions toward sustainable energy, these cutting-edge tech products are set to become the backbone of modern transportation.
